Policy

Contact

There are very few policies which apply across all of Wikia. These can be found on the Central Wikia at Wikia:Category:Policy.

Other policies for this wiki should be decided by the wiki's community. It's generally best to keep policies as simple as possible, and not to introduce too many rules. A growing wiki can usually do well with a few simple policies and a lot of goodwill and cooperation.

Main Policy

This entire policy takes effect October 3, 2010. And this policy was last updated December 6, 2010.

  • Assume good faith.
  • Vandalism-only accounts are subject to permanent blocks.
  • Inappropriate usernames (like promotional or disruptive usernames) are subject to a permanent block.
  • Using multiple accounts is forbidden. Multiple accounts should only be used for bots, editing on a public IP, doppelgangers to avoid impersonation (should not be used for editing) and if the user has lost access to their old account.
  • If you and someone on the same IP address edit this wiki, please announce it on your user page to avoid being suspected of using multiple accounts.
  • Compromised/Hacked accounts will be blocked permanently unless the original owner of the account can verify that they have regained access to their account.
  • Administrators have to set an example to the community.
  • Users should for their own proposals, except for community decisions.
  • Don't feed the trolls or encourage vandals.

Rules for Inactive Admins/Bureaucrats

This rule is set to ensure almost all administrators on The Sims Medieval Wiki are active participants in the community, The Sims Medieval Wiki has written and established an Inactive Staff Policy (ISP). This policy is as follows:

  • A staff member is deemed inactive when they have not made any non-minor edits for 3 months, unless they have stated they will be away for an X amount of time. If that is the case, the staff member will keep their position as a staff member. Admins have one more month to reply and state if they have given up of their admin rights or if they want to keep their rights, if the admin has not replyed for that month the rights are revoked.
  • If a former staff member becomes active again, and they have already been demoted, they have a chance to contact a Bureaucrat to restore their staff position, unless they have been inactive for more than 6 months. Otherwise they will have to apply again.
  • Bureaucrats who are absent from more than 3 months are considered inactive unless he/she has given a justification, they have one more month to state if they want to continue with their admin rights or if they want to step down, they will not have their admin rights like Eliminate page but because bureaucrat rights can't be revoked they still have the buttons to see the rights of a user but if they use it they have to receive a pernanment block, so bureaucrats are only formally demoted.

The ISP policy has taken effect as of October 19, 2010.

Violations and Punishment

All misunderstandings or disputes regarding the rules should be solved by an admin. These are the standard punishments for violations:

  1. Using profanity will result in a block of ten days, if a user repeats the offence he/she will be blocked for at least eight months.
  2. Blanking pages is punishable by a block of three days, one month, six months, one year or permanently; depending on the amount of pages.
  3. Vandalizing templates and/or the main page will result in a block of at least ten days.
  4. Inappropriate or obscene usernames, being disrespectful to other users, or actively trying to upset others for fun (trolling) will result in in a permanent block.
  5. Creating inappropriate pages will result in a warning. If the warned user continues to create inappropriate pages, he/she will be blocked for an amount of time depending on the severity of the offense.
  6. Multiple accounts are forbidden unless it is for a bot, editing on a public IP address, a doppelganger account to avoid impersonation (shouldn't be used for editing). Any unauthorized use of multiple accounts (such as vote stacking, trolling etc.) will result in the sock puppets being permanently blocked and the main account will be blocked for a shorter amount of time, depending on the severity of said situation.

Appeals

If a person has been locked out of their account for a reason they think was not in accordance with policy, they may appeal by contacting an administrator with an anonymous account stating their account name and info.

Image Policy

All images uploaded to the Wiki must qualify as "fair use" under United States copyright law and have a license tag detailing why they qualify as fair use.
